Abstract

The Great East Japan Earthquake inflicted catastrophic damage over a wide area of Japan not just by the earthquake but also by the subsequent tsunami and the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Infrastructure facilities also suffered severe damage. In this paper, we investigate the status of infrastructure damage and restoration and propose the "distributed independent energy supply system" as a future solution to urban energy problems.
