The building area in northern heating areas accounts for 70% of the total land area. And more than 70% of buildings are high energy consumption buildings. The existing residential buildings in northern heating areas have an enormous energy saving potential. The heat metering and energy efficiency retrofit in Qingdao was initiated in2007. In order to understand the current status of the existing residential buildings heating energy consumption, this paper collects and analyzes the heating energy consumption during 2015-2016 of about 256 heat-exchange stations covered about 20 million m2 buildings, and investigates and meters detailed related-parameters of 10 typical heatexchange stations, including scale, energy consumption, temperature and flow. The influence factor of the existing residential buildings is illustrated. Results show that the heating energy consumption in Qingdao ranges from 0.25 GJ/m2to 0.45GJ/m2 with the average 0.35 GJ/m2. The loss rate of the primary pipe network was about 5%-15%, and the loss rate of the secondary pipe network is about 15%-25%.
