This study investigates how to renew the rural houses along with the coastal areas in Northern China from the energy-saving perspective in wintertime. 67 villages field investigations and statistics were used for the regional laws and energy-saving methods. A traditional house as a sample in Shi village of Yingkou City was then selected for monitoring the indoor temperature and simulating energy consumption in winter, and comparing with the existing new house for showing the renewal situations and problems. The energy consumption simulation model was developed by Energy Performance Calculation(The EPC was developed using the calculation method standard in EN ISO 13790 and its supporting standards.), to investigate the factors that affect heating energy consumption and propose house design strategies. This paper analyzed the main primary influencing factors (building air leakage level, Window-wall Radio, insulation capacity of wall and roof, height of the house) and the secondary influencing factors (the window overhang, the vertical shading, Width-length radio of Room ). In addition, changes in existing newer houses are not conducive to energy saving in winter, and do not conform to the regional law either. The findings will be helpful for the villagers or government to select better strategies to save energy and have winter comfort. And also developed a renewal method and proposed strategies to save heating energy in rural houses.
