Abstract

Virtual reality (VR) technology has rapidly advanced in recent years, demonstrating significant potential in the application of restorative environments. Restorative environments can help individuals recover their psychological and physiological health. VR technology, through its immersive experience and multi-sensory simulation, provides an effective alternative to actual natural environments. This review systematically summarizes existing research on the application of VR in restorative natural environments, exploring its impacts on psychological and physiological health, cognitive function and learning efficiency, sleep quality and overall health, and have potential in improving cognitive performance and learning efficiency. However, technological limitations and challenges require further research and resolution. Future studies should focus on personalized design and long-term effect verification of VR technology in various application scenarios to better serve urban planning, education, healthcare, and psychological interventions.
