JAILCD2026-003: Techniques for Measuring Personnel Performance and Comfort

In experimental research, quantifying human performance and comfort is essential for understanding environmental impacts on occupant performance and well-being. To meet this need, scholars have developed a series of rigorous and widely validated evaluation methods. Among them, subjective assessment, neurophysiological parameter monitoring, and performance-based efficiency measurement are the most commonly adopted approaches. Subjective assessments capture occupants’ direct thermal or environmental perceptions; neurophysiological indicators provide objective measurements of human physiological responses; and performance-based metrics quantify cognitive or task-related performance under different environmental conditions. In this study, these three methods are reviewed to elucidate their application, advantages, and limitations within current research.
