Traditional dwelling has been successful in achieving harmony with environment, which is one of the most important conditions for sustainability. The paper focuses on qualitative analysis evolution characteristics of location form, function space and structural materials of the dwelling. Furthermore, atypical dwelling was selected for assessment of its indoor thermal environment on the basis of an on-site monitoring. Energy consumption was used to calculate and simulate. Quantitative analysis reveal the ecological characteristics with the residential wall of cool in summer and warm in winter in the residential wall. Finally, we summarized the tendency of dwelling spontaneous evolution and existing problems, putforward the adaptive development direction to guide the development of the traditional dwellings.
