In the social context of the rapid development of information and digital application, traditional technologies and models are all the more difficult to meet the requirements of the protection of urban historic buildings. This paper, proceeding from the current status of the protection of historic buildings in Tianjin, clarifies the related achievements and limitations; based on this, it demonstrates the applicability of applying the BIM technology in the protection-related tasks; then, it explores the feasibility of digital protection based on Duan Qirui’s Former Residence Project. Thereby, this paper provides reference for the digital protection of historic buildings in Tianjin.
