The development of Chinese local architecture has experienced a slow and arduous process. As a representative of Chinese local architects, Jiakun Liu explores the main contradiction, which is also a breakthrough on the building operation and the balance between the communities, in his latest design “West Village•Basis Yard”. It represents an exploration of local architecture in the sustainable, eco-energy-saving and traditional regression design. This article mainly introduces Jiakun Liu's architectural practices in the design “West Village•Basis Yard”, and then ponders over the modern significance of local architecture.
